Melissa and I have always had kind of a standing rule when saying good-bye at the end of a phone call. We try to say See ya soon, even if it's not going to be.
Once in a while we say, See ya tomorrow, even if there are many between us.
Traditionally, in Japanese you don't use the word Sayounara for Good-bye unless one is going away for a very long time.
