Apparently there is a little boy at the orphanage named Steven and the girls fell in love with him from the beginning. The first night, when they got to peek at the babies, most were sleeping but Steven was running around in his crib like it was on fire. He has HIV and has almost reached the point of being to old for the orphanage. The girls could not bring themselves to talk about what will happen to him in the future. They spend as much time with him as they can and already Melissa doesn't want to come home. (But we knew that would happen!)
ANYWAY, when ever he does something good or obeys, they taught him to say:
"That's nice!" So now he runs around saying to everyone and anyone, "Da nye!"
There is another little boy named Moses, who only smiles when they blow bubbles with the almost empty container another volunteer left there.
Melissa asked us on a brief phone call if we could adopt both of them.
Please keep them in your prayers. The orphanage is hard work and there are situations, customs, and culture, which shake them mentally and emotionally. They are tired, sunburnt, and have a few side effects from the malaria pills, namely nausea and nightmares. Jen is homesick for Tony. Their hearts are heavy with the circumstances, but at the end of the day, they are filled to overflowing with their decision to go.
Did we tell you that the power sharing agreement between the opposition parties was signed while they were in the air? God is good and I am amazed at His guidance and my comfort level with this trip.
A more recent phone call had them crying about filming over an already full video tape. They're going to be fine! And I, for one, cannot wait to hear the stories, see the photos, view what's left of the video, and see with my own eyes, hearts transformed.
